September 23 After Words



Tell about the things you have to do to get ready to leave the house each day.

 

 

Talk about what you expect to get out of worship each Sunday. Or is there nothing you expect?

 

 

Talk about the spiritual things you might do during a week – prayer, meditation, solitude, celebration, Bible study. Or do you need to start developing these?

 

 

Talk about the things you do to prepare for church on Sunday.

 

 

Revelation 22:14 says, “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city.” What does this mean to you?

 

 

Worship is an invitation from God. What might you do to prepare for it?

Tell about the last time someone invited you to a party. How did the invitation make you feel?

 

 

Tell about a time when things were bad. Did you feel there was no hope in the situation?

 

 

What was the greatest gift someone gave to you? How did you feel about receiving it?

 

 

Tell about some of the ways God has blessed you. How does this make you feel about God?

 

 

The 23rd Psalm begins with “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.” What do those words mean to you?

 

 

The 23rd Psalm also talks about being anointed. Do you feel God has anointed you – set you apart as special?

Tell about a time when you had to face your mistake or be punished. Maybe you were called to the principal’s office, or the boss’ office, or you had to fix your mistake.

 

 

Tell about how you felt knowing you had done something wrong.

 

 

Tell about someone in your life you do not trust. What about them makes you not trust them?

 

 

Describe your attitude toward God. Is he an angry God or a loving God?

 

 

Psalm 51:17 says, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.” How can you have a broken spirit for God?

 

 

David made certain Mephibosheth was welcome at his table. How is God’s invitation to us like that?

Tell about the most famous person you ever met.

 

 

Tell about what you must do in preparation to come to church.

 

 

Tell about all the things you do to have a better relationship with God – attend church, read the Bible, pray, study, etc.

 

 

In Luke 19:5 Jesus told Zacchaeus, “I must stay at your house today.” How would you react if Jesus said that to you?

 

 

“The Son of Man came to seek and save what was lost.” (Luke 19:10) What are the things in your life that let you know Jesus is looking for you?

 

 

“He has committed us to the message of reconciliation.” (2 Corinthians 5:19) What do you do to let others know Jesus loves them?

Tell about someone you know who is fun to be around.

 

 

Tell about any rules you might have in your house – like, always turn off the lights, etc. Are the rules meant as a punishment?

 

 

If possible, share your view of who God is. Is He a loving and joyful god or someone to be feared?

 

 

Rev. Richard Foster says that joy is the keynote of all spiritual disciplines. Do you find joy in your relationship with God?

 

 

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!” (1 John 3:1) What does this mean to you?

 

 

God tells us, “Be glad and rejoice forever in what I will create.” (Isaiah 65:18) What are the things God has done or made that make you rejoice?
