The Greek word for kindness is chrestotesChrestotes is defined as goodness that is sweet or mellow, offering no discomfort.  Chrestotes gives spiritual and physical help, and keeps the focus off the giver.

In Matthew 6:1 Jesus says, “Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them.  If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.”
